This post has absolutely nothing to do with work, freelancing or goal setting.
But it has everything to do with a concept known as “fun.” This whole idea of fun feels like a foreign concept to me.
Just last night I was at this leadership meeting dinner at church and someone said, “So Josh, you been doing anything fun lately?”
I said, “Fun? What’s that? I don’t know what that is.”
The sad part is I was halfway serious.
I’m good at being serious, responsible and disciplined. But fun is like this whole mysterious world to me.
And I’d like to change that. Because there was a time in my life when I was “more fun” (at least that’s what I tell myself).
So last week I walked in the house and my wife said, “Would you dress up as Spiderman for Gunner’s birthday party?”
Gunner is her nephew who was about to turn 3.
I thought about it for a second and thought, you know what I’m way too serious all the time. It’s time to have some fun. It’s time to try something new.
It’s time to be Spiderman.
“Yes, I will do it.”
So she ordered the costume on Amazon and it was at our house the next day.
Yes, I felt a little awkward wearing a skin-tight suit in front of a bunch of friends and family.
But you know what? It was worth it because those kids had a blast… but I think I may have had even more fun!
So what’s the lesson today? If you’re way too serious like me, maybe you should be a superhero for a day. It just may do you some good.
