If you’re a knowledge worker you can’t afford to fry your brain.
Once you do that you’re completely useless. And when you’re fried you end up working longer hours but getting less done. You can even start to do more harm than good.
Remember those anti-drug commercials from the 1980s?
“This is your brain. This is your brain on drugs. Any questions?”
Well working nonstop without any breaks is sort of like that.
“This is your brain. This is your brain without breaks. Any questions?”
If you feel fried and you know you’re not operating at 100% then take a break. Close out of your inbox, shut the laptop down, turn off your phone, and do something to recharge.
Go for a walk, read a book or journal. Do something to relax.
It’s not easy when you have a 100 things on your to-do list. But maybe you have 100 things on your list because you have neglected taking time to relax and recharge.
