walks

I felt exhausted after work today.

I usually only do 3 focus sessions (50 minutes of focused copywriting work followed by a 10 minute break) in the mornings. But today I did 5 back-to-back and it drained me!

After the 5th session it was 2:30 and I was mentally drained and super hungry. Even after lunch it was hard to recover. Then right after work I immediately went into the house and started cleaning the kitchen (not relaxing for me).

I got grumpy and irritable (I know because my wife said so). Then I did something I haven’t done for at least a week or so. I went for a walk.

And as soon as I did I could feel myself feeling normal again. I love walks. I spend so much of my life in front of screens that it’s so refreshing to unplug and just go for a long walk.

So I’ve decided to do a new experiment. After I get done working I will go for a walk before “going home.” Since my office is only a 30-second walk to my house I’ll have to take a little detour around the side of the house so I can walk down my road.

We live in the country so it’s nice and quiet on the road. Plus, just today I found a cool little trail that goes back for miles. I’ll have to explore that some more.

Anyway, that’s all I wanted to share today, my new “shutdown ritual” of going for a walk. I’ll let you know how it goes. Maybe it’s something you could practice too!
