Last night I went to bed around 11:45 and I set my alarm for 6:45 (I try to get at least 7 hours of sleep each night).
But I hit snooze and woke up at 8:00. 🙁
Normally when I do this I think, Ahh, I’m late for work and my whole day is messed up now!
But when I allow this thought to fester it puts me in a bad mood. I feel rushed, stressed and anxious.
So this morning I did something different, which is what I want to tell you about.
When I noticed that thought come up this morning (it happened as I was walking from my bedroom to the bathroom to go shower) I chose to think a different thought.
Instead of thinking, I’m late and now my schedule is messed up.
I thought: I’m so thankful I get to work from home and that when I need more sleep I can just sleep in without getting in trouble for it.
And guess what? It worked! I showered, had a light breakfast, made coffee and walked out to my RV to have a short morning ritual before starting my day.
I wasn’t stressed like I would normally be when I sleep in and I actually had a productive day. I wrote a lot of copy, got one of my VA’s started on a list building project and even looked at 3 new homes with my wife and kids tonight.
So it was a good lesson for me. Sometimes I just need a little more sleep and when I do I don’t have to beat myself up and get in a bad mood because of it.
I know I can’t let myself sleep in every day (even though it’s tempting when you work from home) but it’s ok to do every now and then. 🙂
